Fabulous Saturdays: KERRANG! Summer Festival at the Square
After my post about the Recipe for a Fabulous Saturday, I decided it was time to document another gorgeous Saturday.
Now that I've finished uni, spending time with friends from there isn't just left down to seeing them by default in lectures and around campus. We have to actually organise our time together. And we all know I adore organising - especially when it involves friends, food and fun.
So, myself and my fabulous friend Toni (with an 'i') headed into Birmingham for a catch up.
We started off at Starbucks, New St. Now, although I am a huge fan of independent coffee shops, Starbucks is my default, so for convenience, we headed there.
After a couple of hours nattering away about various things (we had 3 months worth of life to catch up on), we decided to check out a little event called KERRANG! Summer Festival at the Square. Can I be honest? I wasn't expecting to leave the festival raving about it. I was however, pleasantly surprised, when we arrived there.
The festival's musical line up consists of up-and-coming bands and they were, I'm pleased to say, rather good. The set up for the crowd was pretty cool too. A fenced-off faux grass area housed some beanbags and benches. It's actually an idea I'd love to use in my own garden (when I have one). I've even found a company that make outdoor beanbags !

The problems I often find are poor quality, ovepriced items. But I didn't have that problem this time around.
Walking around the square, we stumbled upon the vintage stalls. Now, anybody who knows vintage, knows that you have to do a fair bit of rummaging to find the gems. But on this occasion, not too much rummaging was required as I spotted an absolute gem, straight away.
Since December last year, I've been working on my vinyl collection. It started off with the Purple Rain soundtrack for Christmas (thanks, Ben) and I acquired one from my old primary school, that was in a cupboard and about to be thrown away.
So, I spotted this little gem and just had to have it. Classic!
After my vinyl triumph, I headed back to the jewellery and stalls that we passed on the way in.
And here are the bargains I managed to pick up.

I've wanted a cassette necklace for a long time and just never got round to buying one. I could always find them with a cassette pendant but a real cassette is what cinched the deal for me. Plus, it was a steal at £5!

I always shop with a bit of a list in my head. It's good to have an idea of what you want, so that you don't buy things you'll end up regretting, once you're home. On the other hand, I hadn't planned to buy any vinyl that day and found a gem, so it's all down to being open-minded and sticking to some sort of budget.
You'll have to excuse the photography in this post. I'm still getting the hang of my new camera. I'm so excited about it. It's a NIKON Coolpix L810. So, for the next few posts, I'll be getting the hang of things.
Hope you've enjoyed!
Much love,
