Melly's Musings: Criticism
My first post in over a month is an honest, straight-to-the-point one but it's positive. Enjoy...
I haven't written a blog post for well over a month. Have I been busy? Yes. Is it hard to think of content that's going to keep you interested? Yes. But actually, the reason is the grapevine.
I'm sure it's something that all of you bloggers have faced: the odd whisper here and there about your blog. Some words are nice. Some words aren't. Some are said to your face. Some aren't.
A friend of mine asked why I hadn't posted the link to my blog in a while and I sort of confessed that I was afraid of what people might think. He reminded me of something: people who criticise you recognise that you're doing something right. (Or at least doing something).
See, I actually don't write for anyone's approval - as I said in my post on Cyber Bullying. Maybe I lost sight of that. This is my own little space and I know for a certain fact that people do enjoy reading 'Inside Melly's Mind'. So, I'm going to take my wise friend's advice and carry on.
Fear of what people will say about you will kill your dreams. Because truthfully, I've really really missed blogging.
I'm sure we've all faced criticism at some point in our lives. You can't avoid it but you can learn some things. And here's what I've learnt:

I'm sure we've all faced criticism at some point in our lives. You can't avoid it but you can learn some things. And here's what I've learnt:
- you can't please all of the people all of the time. You will burn yourself out by trying.
- not everyone will adore you but that's okay. Are you in awe of every single person you meet? No, I didn't think so.
- another person's criticism of you and what you do often says more about them than it does about you.
- choosing not to forgive will only hurt you.
I hadn't really planned to write this post, I was just going to carry on as normal but if something needs to be addressed, then I'll do that. And so, new content is on its way, my lovelies.
In the meantime, check out my previous posts, leave me some lovely comments to read and let me know your thoughts. My Twitter feed has magically fixed itself, so if you care about my random musings day-to-day (which are mostly about food, I won't lie), you can follow there too.
Until next time (which will be soooon),

P.S. Some of you have said you would like to comment but don't have a Google Account. That's okay, you don't need one. You can comment with just your name.
Yeah its true - you cant please all of the people all of the time. I was worried about writing a public blog but what I do is for me not anyone else and if people do not like it let them carry on! I'm glad you are posting anyway!

Thank you for your comment, Claire. It can be tough sometimes but if we paid attention to everything people said about, we'd never do anything, would we? I'm excited to see where our blogs go next x
DeleteDefinitely don't let that hold you back Melissa! I have my moments when I get embarrassed speaking to people about my blog but I've never heard a bad word, presumably that's all done behind my back so doesn't bother me! For every negative remark, you will have loads of people enjoying your content and admiring you for putting yourself out there, it's a brave thing to do! Xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your encouragement, Katie. It means a lot. It is a brave thing to do. And your blog inspired me years ago because I thought all the great bloggers were in London - not true at all. Definitely makes it easier to carry on, with people like yourself around xx
