Melly's Musings | Encouragement

This is the second in my Blog Every Day in May challenge. Today, I'm musing on encouragement.

Last week, I felt totally rubbish. Have you ever felt a little bit naff but can't quite put your finger on why? Well, that was me, for about a week or so. It was awful.

I think that those moments happen to all of us and no matter how long it lasts, you are allowed to feel your feelings. Try not to wallow for too long.

One thing that I try to make a habit of doing is encouraging people. Whether you'll admit it or not, everyone likes to be encouraged. Sometimes it comes in the form of praise for something you've done; "great job." Other times, it will come in the form of a gentle nudge; "you can do it. Keep going." Either way, you can't deny that it feels really good.

You know what? Making someone feel good can actually make your day too. Over the past few days, I've gone out of my way to encourage a couple of blogger friends. That's not to toot my own horn but to say that I'm trying to practise what I preach. It's so nice to inject a shot of loveliness into someone's day, when they weren't expecting it.

I'm not sure if it triggers a chemical reaction but it certainly lifts your spirit. Whenever I'm at bootcamp and there's a particularly tough activity, it makes a huge difference when someone shouts to spur you on. They've cultivated an environment where it's vital to encourage other people and if more places were like that, we'd all be a lot better off.

Today, I received a text from a friend that said 'you are KILLING the social media game. Xx'. That genuinely made my day and I told them that it did.

It takes very little effort to give someone a little bit of praise. Do it, even if it's tough for you. When you're feeling down or having a bit of a wobble, take the focus off yourself for a couple of minutes. Tell another blogger that you love their work, encourage that new mom that you know - she probably needs to hear it more than you realise. If you admire someone, tell them!

Who can you encourage today? The people who need it don't always look like they do.

Lots of love,
Melly
